The conversation on the Idea of Democracy was carried forward at the regional chapters of the History for Peace conference in Ludhiana and Chandigarh. The conferences discussed democracy's relationship with history, the value of the promise of democracy in a country weighed down by social, economic and political injustices and espoused the creation of more democratic spaces which invite both dissent and dialogue. The journal is a compilation of lectures delivered at the Delhi Public School, Ludhiana and the St Kabir Public School, Chandigarh and show the myriad ways in which the public and private lives of our speakers intersect to shape the way in which they understand democracy.
